CAROLYN CHEN

Carolyn Chen has written music for the supermarket, the demolition district, and the dark. Her works have been presented in 20 countries and described by The New York Times as “the evening’s most consistently alluring ... a quiet but lush meditation.” It has been supported by the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, Stanford University Sudler Prize, University of California Institute for Research in the Arts, American Composers Forum, ASCAP, Emory Planetarium, MATA, impuls, and Composers Conference at Wellesley. RYAN LINDVEIT

Ryan Lindveit is a Los Angeles-based American composer. He has received honors and awards from BMI, ASCAP, SCI, the American Modern Ensemble, the National Band Association, and Tribeca New Music. Ryan recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Composition degree summa cum laude from the University of Southern California, where he was selected as Salutatorian for the class of 2016, named the Outstanding Graduate from the Thornton School of Music, and received the Composition Department Award. He will continue his composition studies at the Yale School of Music in the fall of 2017. Learn more: ryanlindveit.com.

 

David Clay Mettens

David “Clay” Mettens has been recognized with a 2016 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and a commission from the American Opera Initiative, premiered by the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. His orchestra piece “Sleeping I am carried...” was selected for the 2015 Underwood New Music Readings and the [‘tactus] Young Composers Forum with the Brussels Philharmonic, who will perform it during their upcoming 2016-2017 season. A native of Covington, KY, he is currently a PhD composition student at the University of Chicago, where he studies with Augusta Read Thomas. Learn more: mettensmusic.com.

 

KIRSTEN BROBERG

The music of Kirsten Broberg has been performed by the Kronos Quartet, International Contemporary Ensemble, Jack Quartet, New Millennium Orchestra, Third Coast Percussion, and Ensemble Dal Niente.  Her music has been heard at the Sonic Fusion Festival, Sonic Impact at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and Opera Cabal Multimedia Festival. She won a Fromm Foundation Grant from Harvard University and first place in the University of Minnesota Call for Orchestral Scores.  She holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from Northwestern University where she was a student of Augusta Read Thomas, Jay Alan Yim, and Jason Eckard. ALISTAIR COLEMAN

Alistair Coleman is a young composer from the Washington DC area. Recently, his new work, Of Radiance and Light, was commissioned by the National Philharmonic to be premiered at the Strathmore Music Center. He has received performances and commissions from the Takoma Ensemble, Cathedral Choral Society, Houston Brass, Boston University Marsh Chapel Choir, Philadelphia Youth Brass, and more. Alistair is the youngest composer ever to be published by Schirmer Music Company. He has received awards from NAfME and an “Honorable Mention” from the American Composers Forum. Charles Halka

Charles Halka’s music has been performed in North America, Europe, and Hong Kong, including performances by the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop, the Lviv Philharmonic, the Mexican National Symphony, counter)induction, Fort Worth Opera Studio, Volti, and the Callithumpian Consort. He is a recipient of the Copland House Residency Award, and has also been in residence at the MacDowell Colony and the Sarbievijaus Cultural Center in Lithuania. Charles earned degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and Rice University, and is Visiting Lecturer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Learn more: charleshalka.com.

 

Karena Ingram

With self-taught beginnings in music composition and violin performance at the age of 9, Karena Ingram works as a freelance composer in Baltimore, Maryland. With her bachelor of arts in music composition, her contemporary works have been performed regularly throughout the Baltimore area. Ingram actively composes for contemporary chamber ensembles, video games, and interactive media. Learn more: karenaingrammusic.com.
