Katayoon Hodjati

Mackaudio Principal FlutE | Personnel Director

Katayoon (Katy) is a native of Silver Spring, MD and is a passionate performer of a variety of musical styles. Equally comfortable with early music, new music, and whatever falls in between, she enjoys playing the traverso, was a founding member of Baltimore’s Mobtown Modern Music Series, and dabbles in music from other cultures. Prior to returning to Maryland, Katayoon performed with the Symphony of the Southwest, the MusicaNova Orchestra, and The Phoenix Symphony. Recently, she was a featured soloist at The National Flute Association's annual convention. In addition to performing, Katayoon is a dedicated teacher and believes in the power of mentorship through music. She frequently serves as an adjudicator and a guest clinician, ranging from mentoring elementary school students in Baltimore's BSO OrchKids program, to holding masterclasses at the university level, to judging local and national events. She also maintains a small local private studio.

Katayoon holds performance degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Arizona State University, as well as a degree in Spanish from Oberlin College and a degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health. She has been a member of The United States Army Field Band Field Band since 2004 and currently serves as the flute section leader as well as flutist in the Army Field Band Woodwind Quintet. A lifetime learner, Katayoon is also a devoted student of both yoga and Middle Eastern dance.
