Kristin Bakkegard

Barry Richmond Principal Second Violin

Baltimore native Kristin Bakkegard is a vibrant freelance violinist and teacher stationed in the Washington, DC area. She is a tenured member of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Richmond Symphony, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Pan American Symphony Orchestra (PASO), Apollo Orchestra, and Virginia Opera. Locally, she has performed in such venues as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington National Cathedral, and Strathmore, and she has recorded for the Tony award-winning Shakespeare Theatre Company and played solo at the Norwegian Embassy.

Outside of DC, she has enjoyed playing engagements for the Fringe Festival in Philadelphia, Spotlighters Theater in Baltimore, the Takoma Ensemble in nearby Takoma Park, and the Bel Cantanti Opera Company in Silver Spring, Maryland. Major festivals she has attended include the National Repertory Orchestra, National Orchestral Institute, and the Banff Centre; she has been awarded fellowships at the Marrowstone Music Festival and the Atlantic Music Festival.

Kristin obtained her Master’s degree in Violin Performance at the University of Maryland School of Music in 2014, and she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at Ithaca College in 2012. Her primary teachers have been members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Symphony Number One is Baltimore's Newes Chamber Orchestra, devoted to substantial works by emerging composers.
