Joe Isom

Principal Cello | Director of Popular Programming

A native of Buffalo, NY, Joe recently obtained his Master of Music Degree at Peabody Conservatory, under the tutelage of Alan Stepansky. He also received his undergraduate degree under Stepansky at the Manhattan School of Music. Joe began studying cello in the 4th grade. He was a student of Roman Mekinulov, principal cellist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO). Joe was a member of the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra where he served as principal cellist. He was a winner of the Silverman String Scholarship, which included the honor of performing as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Joe has attended the Eastern Music Festival at Guilford College, and the New York State Summer School of the Arts, School of Orchestral Studies at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. He has served as principal cellist for the MSM Symphony, the Texas Music Festival and the National Orchestral Institute. He was most recently a member of the Maryland Symphony cello section.
