What a summer it’s been. Here are a few updates in case you missed them.

 

  • Ben Goldberg was named Symphony Number One’s second Composer-in-Residence.
  • In July, SNO completed it’s summer funding campaign and raised more than $13,000. Thanks to all of our supporters for their tremendous generosity! 
  • Our fourth Call for Scores is underway!  Composers, send in those scores. Learn more: Call for Scores 4.

...and then there were fifteen...  After thorough consideration, our thirty nominees have been narrowed down to just fifteen finalists!

    Light City Tracks 4

    Today, we release the last of our Light City tracks! In this first track, we highlight our featured composer, Joel Puckett. While Symphony Number One focuses heavily on emerging composers just entering into their careers, we also have a deep love for modern masters like Puckett, Boulez, and Adams. Soloist Nicholas Bentz performs a new version of Joel Puckett's "Mint Julep," the finale from his violin concerto, Southern Comforts.

    We're excited to present our Call for Scores 3 Nominees! These 30 fantastic composers with their stunning scores now advance to round 2 where they will be evaluated by a different panel. Congratulations! The nominees, in no particular order, are:

    Our second Call for Scores is complete: congratulations to Martha Callison Horst and Nick Omiccioli for winning our top prize: commissions for our 2016-17 season. We evaluated a rich and satisfying array of unique voices, and these two stood out among the 120 entries. We also look forward to many exciting projects ahead for some of our finalists, so like us on Facebook for the latest announcements!

    We are thrilled to congratulate Andrew Posner and Jonathan Russell as the winners of the inaugural Symphony Number One Call for Scores! We would also like to congratulate our Honorable Mention, Nick Omiccioli, and our 9 exceptional finalists.

    Symphony Number One is Baltimore's Newes Chamber Orchestra, devoted to substantial works by emerging composers.
